Group therapy followed by chairlift chats on Whistler Blackcomb

offered through Slope Side Support Society -  January - April 2026

A unique blend of outdoor adventure and mental health support. Group therapy sessions and individual support tailored specifically for men (18+), utilizing skiing as a therapeutic tool.

Sessions take place before skiing in a supportive, relaxed environment. Led by a registered psychotherapist, these sessions encourage open dialogue and camaraderie, fostering trust before hitting the slopes.

While skiing, participants engage in conversations with trained mental health clinicians. This unique setting provides a comfortable space for discussing challenges and setting goals in nature.

Trauma Psycho-education and Skills Group

May - June 2023

A drop-in workshop series on various approaches to understanding trauma, the nervous system, and healing from the legacy of trauma, facilitated by registered clinical counsellors Alejs Lluis Gonzalez and Graham Haber, hosted by Coast Wilderness Medical Training. 

Each session runs from 7pm to 8:30pm and will take place at 1909 Maple Drive, Unit 101, Squamish BC

Day 1: Tuesday, May 23rd - An introduction to the legacy of trauma and traumatic memory 

Day 2: Monday, May 29th - An introduction to a polyvagal theory of the nervous system

Day 3: Monday, June 5th - Polyvagal exercises for regulating the nervous system

Day 4: Monday, June 12th - Dialectical behavioural therapy for emotion regulation

Day 5: Monday, June 19th - Trauma and mindful self-compassion

Day 6: Monday, June 26th - Complex trauma



Climbing and the Nervous System

  • Location: Ground Up Climbing, Squamish

Co-facilitated by Graham Haber and Sarah Johnstone

This workshop focuses on the connection between climber and belayer, and how that connection interacts with the nervous system through the lens of polyvagal theory. During the session, participants learn about and experiment with the various states of the nervous system, exploring how they show up in climbing as well as general life. Participants also get to learn and practice some useful techniques for supporting themselves and others in regulation.
